Berlin Iron Signet Ring
About the Item
This is a wonderful signet ring made of Berlin iron and carved with what appears to be agricultural tools, including a scythe, wisps of grain from a harvest, and what appears to be a symbol for a parcel of agricultural land. The scythe symbolizes the desire for a healthy harvest. These carvings show the signet ring came from a landowning farmer. The band has a floral engraving. During the Napoleonic war German women gave their precious jewelry for the war effort and it was replaced with Berlin iron jewelry some with the inscription "Ich gab gelt für eisen", meaning "I gave gold for iron". The iron jewelry was made by the Royal Berlin Factory, which produced iron for industrial use as its primary operation. But when the Napoleonic wars erupted, artisans were employed to make this beautiful and collectible iron jewelry for the war effort. Berlin iron rings are extremely strong and have an esoteric look. As genuine historical jewelry, it is a privilege to own an authentic piece of Berlin Iron in any form of jewelry.
